Inspirational Quotes by Yann Martel (Canadian Novelist)

Yann Martel (b.1963) is a Canadian novelist. He is best known for Life of Pi, the narrative of an adolescent in a shipwrecked lifeboat shared with a Bengal tiger.

Born to a Canadian diplomat in Salamanca, Spain, Martel grew up in Alaska, British Columbia, Costa Rica, France, Ontario, and Mexico. He studied philosophy at Trent University, Ontario. His initial works were The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios (1993,) a collection of short stories, and the novel Self (1996,) a tale of sexual identity, orientation, and transformation.

Martel’s Life of Pi (2002,) an epic survival story with an overarching religious theme, won the 2002 Man Booker Prize. It was translated into 30 languages and adapted into an acclaimed film (2012) directed by Ang Lee.

Martel’s subsequent works include another collection, We Ate the Children Last (2004.) Beatrice and Virgil (2010) represents the Holocaust, with stuffed animals at a taxidermist’s display converse and interact with human characters. The High Mountains of Portugal (2016) is a trio of interlinking novellas that each serve to confirm religion’s importance.
