Inspirational Quotes by Wheeler McMillen (American Farmer, Journalist)

Wheeler McMillen (1893–1992) was an American farmer and journalist who chronicled the profound changes in 20th-century American agriculture. He was the editor-in-chief of Farm Journal (1939–55,) America’s most prominent periodical dedicated to agriculture, and an author and lecturer on social and economic problems of agriculture in the United States.

Born on a 125-acre family farm near Ada, Ohio, McMillen attended Northern Ohio University, which later conferred an honorary doctorate. After graduation, he worked for newspapers in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1922, he moved to New York City to be an editor on Farm and Fireside until 1939. As editor editor-in-chief of the Farm Journal, McMillen pioneered the industrial uses for crops and previously wasted byproducts.

McMillen’s 15 books included Too Many Farmers (1929) and Feeding Multitudes: A History of What Made America Rich (1981.)
