Inspirational Quotes by Thomas Pynchon (American Novelist)

Thomas Pynchon (b.1937,) fully Thomas Ruggles Pynchon, is an American novelist and short-story writer. An elusive author who evades public attention, his works blend black humor and fantasy to portray human alienation in the turmoil of modern society.

Born in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, Pynchon earned a B.A. in English from Cornell University in 1958. Pynchon spent a year in Greenwich Village penning short stories and working on a novel. His first novels were V. (1963; Faulkner Foundation Award) and The Crying of Lot 49 (1966.)

Pynchon’s apocalyptic masterwork Gravity’s Rainbow (1973) investigated the predicaments of human beings in the modern world. Parts from this novel were adapted in the German film Prüfstand VII (2002.) Pynchon’s subsequent novels are Vineland (1990,) Mason & Dixon (1997,) Against the Day (2006,) Inherent Vice (2009; filmed 2014,) and Bleeding Edge (2013.)

Pynchon also published the short stories collections include Entropy (1960,) The Secret Integration (1964,) and Slow Learner (1984.)
