Inspirational Quotes by James C. Humes (American Author, Speechwriter)

James Clayton Humes (1934–2021) was an American author, historian, and speechwriter, best known for his work with prominent political figures. He also served as a professor of English and communication at several universities, including the University of Colorado and Biola University.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Humes gained national recognition for his role as a speechwriter for Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. He contributed to some of their most significant speeches, including Nixon’s contingency speech for the Apollo 11 moon landing, titled “In Event of Moon Disaster.” This speech, written in case the astronauts were unable to return safely from the mission, showcased Humes’ skill in crafting poignant and impactful messages.

Throughout his career, Humes authored several books, many of which focused on historical and leadership topics including Podium Humor: A Catalog of Witty Remarks, Monologues, and Punchlines for Every Speaking Occasion (1975,) The Sir Winston Method (1991,) The Wit & Wisdom of Winston Churchill (1995,) and Speak Like Churchill, Stand Like Lincoln (2002.)
