Inspirational Quotes by David Sedaris (American Humorist, Essayist)

David Sedaris (b.1956,) fully David Raymond Sedaris, is an American humorist, comedian, author, and radio contributor. One of America’s preeminent humor writers, he is noted for his sarcastic and embellished autobiographical stories and incisive social critiques. His work appears on the radio and in several best-selling books.

Born near Binghamton, New York, Sedaris was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. At age 21, he dropped out of college, hitchhiked around the United States, took several odd jobs, and started scribbling a diary on placemats in diners. While taking classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1985–87,) Sedaris started reading his journals at a local club. He was invited by broadcaster Ira Glass to read them on the city’s public radio station.

Sedaris moved to New York in 1991. He appeared on National Public Radio (NPR) in 1992 and read his story “The SantaLand Diaries,” which narrated his experiences as a Christmas elf at a New York City department store. Soon, he started writing essays in such magazines as Harper’s, The New Yorker, and Esquire.

Sedaris is the author of such popular books as Barrel Fever (1994,) Naked (1997,) Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000,) Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004,) When You Are Engulfed in Flames (2008,) and Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls (2013,) and Calypso (2018.) He has sold over 10 million copies in print.

Sedaris also produced Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modern Bestiary (2010,) an illustrated fable about animals.
