Inspirational Quotes by Johnny Unitas (American Football Player)

Johnny Unitas (1933–2002,) byname of John Constantine Unitas, also called Johnny U and “The Golden Arm,” was an American professional football player in the National Football League (NFL.) Considered one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, he played for the Baltimore Colts for most of his career.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Unitas attended the University of Louisville, became Louisville’s starting quarterback, and later played for average collegiate teams throughout his collegiate career. Not regarded as a great prospect upon graduation, he was recruited by the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers but was released before the regular season began. He worked at construction jobs and played for a semiprofessional team in the Pittsburgh area for $6 a game until the Baltimore Colts signed him in 1956.

During Unitas’s rookie season, after Colt’s quarterback broke his leg, Unitas was recruited for the starting role. He evolved into a record-setting quarterback and became the NFL’s most valuable player in 1959, 1964, and 1967.

Unitas held the record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass for 52 years. He was the modern-era marquee quarterback archetype, with a solid passing game, media fanfare, and widespread popularity. Unitas was traded to the San Diego Chargers in 1973, his last season.
