Inspirational Quotes by Madeleine Albright (Czech-born American Diplomat)

Madeleine Albright (1937–2022,) fully Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright, born Marie Jana Korbelová, was a Czechoslovak-American politician and diplomat. She was the first female U.S. secretary of state.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Albright’s family fled to London in 1939 when Germany occupied Czechoslovakia. At age ten, she attended school in Switzerland and then immigrated to the U.S. In adulthood, she discovered that she was not Catholic, as her parents had led her to believe, but Jewish, and her grandparents died in the Holocaust.

Albright attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts and got a doctorate from Columbia University. After many years in academia, she became involved in Democratic Party politics and served in staff positions under various political leaders. Albright served as the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. 1993–97 and U.S. Secretary of State 1997–2001, both under President Bill Clinton. During her tenure, she pushed the Clinton administration to intervene in the Balkan conflict to halt the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Kosovo by Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic.

After retirement, Albright published the memoir Madam Secretary (2003,) in which she chronicled her relocation to America, Ivy League education, marriage to a newspaper heir and divorce, and academic and diplomatic careers.
