Inspirational Quotes by Ted Sorensen (American Lawyer, Speechwriter)

Ted Sorensen (1928–2010,) fully Theodore Chaikin Sorensen, was an American lawyer and presidential speechwriter. A hard-working aide to President John F. Kennedy, Sorensen wrote some of Kennedy’s most memorable speeches.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sorensen attended the University of Nebraska and the university’s law school. At age 24, he joined the staff of Kennedy, a newly elected senator of Massachusetts. Sorensen became one of Kennedy’s closest aides during the latter’s presidential run.

From his inaugural address to his commitment to planting a man on the moon, Sorensen wrote some of Kennedy’s most memorable speeches. He has long been suspected as the real author of Kennedy’s Pulitzer-winning profiles in Courage (1955.)

After Kennedy’s assassination, Sorensen worked as an international lawyer and advised Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1968. Sorensen also unsuccessfully for the New York Senate in 1972.

Sorensen’s many books include Decision Making in the White House (1963,) The Kennedy Legacy (1969,) and Watchmen in the Night: Presidential Accountability After Watergate (1975.) His memoir is Counselor: A Life at the Edge of History (2008.)
