Jeffrey Pfeffer (b.1946) is an American management academic and author of bestselling books on organizational behavior, human resource management, and evidence-based management.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Pfeffer received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University and a doctorate from Stanford. He is a professor of Organizational Behavior at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, where he has taught since 1979.

The author of over 150 articles and book chapters, Pfeffer’s notable works include Power in Organizations (1981,) Competitive Advantage Through People (1994,) The Knowing-Doing Gap (2000,) What Were They Thinking: Unconventional Wisdom About Management (2007,) Power: Why Some People Have It and Others Don’t (2010,) and Dying for a Paycheck (2018.)
