Inspirational Quotes by Edward A. Fox ((b.1936) American Businessman)

Edward A. Fox (b.1936) is an American businessman. He was the founder and CEO 1973–90 of the Student Loan Marketing Association, nicknamed “Sallie Mae,” which owns the debt of about one-third of all educated individuals paying back college loans.

Born in New York, Fox attended Cornell University for his undergraduate degree and New York University for graduate school. Fox was the first employee of Sallie Mae, formed under a federal government charter in 1973 but operated as a private firm. Under his direction, the organization enabled banks and universities to make student loans by guaranteeing their security. The company grew to become a $25 billion financial industry and the largest provider of loans for college students.

Fox left Sallie Mae to become dean of Dartmouth College’s Amos Tuck School of Business 1990–94 and returned to Sallie Mae (then called SLM Corporation) as Chairman of the Board 1997–2005. He was also a director of Capmark Financial Group.
