Inspirational Quotes by Barbara Bush (American First Lady)

Barbara Bush (1925–2018,) née Pierce, was an American first lady. She was the wife of George H. W. Bush, the 41st president, and the mother of George W. Bush, the 43rd president.

Bush was born in New York City. Her rapid entry into American public life came when her husband embarked on a political career after selling his oil business. As George H. W. Bush rose through the ranks and held crucial foreign policy and administrative assignments in Republican politics, and later became vice-president and president, Barbara Bush never pursued a big-league career. Nor did she transform herself into an icon of elegance and glamour. She rose to eminence for merely being the partner-in-life of George H. W. Bush.

When first son George W. Bush became president in 2000, Barbara Bush became the second American woman, after Abigail Adams, to have been the wife of one president and the mother of another. Her second son Jeb Bush was a presidential hopeful in 2016.

Bush wrote the autobiography Barbara Bush: A Memoir (1994.) She was active in charitable causes and promoted global literacy projects.
