James Grant (b.1946) is an American writer and publisher. He is the founder and the chief editor of Grant’s Interest Rate Observer, a twice-monthly journal of the financial markets.

Born in New York City, Grant attended Indiana University and received a master’s degree in International relations from Columbia University. He gained a reputation as an articulate observer and an incisive analyst of the financial markets since he started his Barron’s column “Current Yield” in the late 1970s.

Grant is the author of such well-received books as Money of the Mind (1992,) The Trouble with Prosperity (1996,) and The Forgotten Depression (2014.)
