Inspirational Quotes by C. P. Scott (British Journalist, Editor)

C. P. Scott (1846–1932,) fully Charles Prestwich Scott, was a British journalist and politician. He served as the editor of The Manchester Guardian 1872–1929 and its owner from 1906. Under his editorship, The Guardian, as it is known since 1959, rose to national and international recognition.

Born in Bath, Scott was educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. At the age of 26, he was appointed the editor of The Manchester Guardian, which he developed into a liberal rival of The Times over 57 years. It was characterized by independent and often controversial editorial policies, such as opposition to the Boer War and support to Irish Home Rule and the Zionist cause.

Scott purchased The Manchester Guardian in 1905 upon the death of its publisher, John Edward Taylor, who was Scott’s cousin.

Scott was a Liberal Member of Parliament for Leigh 1895–1906.
