Inspirational Quotes by Gloria Stuart (American Actress)

Gloria Frances Stuart (1910–2010,) née Gloria Stewart Finch, was an American actress. She appeared in many Hollywood motion pictures of the 1930s and 1940s, but she was best known for playing an elderly shipwreck survivor in James Cameron’s blockbuster movie Titanic (1997,) which garnered her a nomination for the Academy Award for best-supporting actress.

Born in Santa Monica, California, Stuart began acting while in college. She had starring roles in the horror pictures The Old Dark House (1932) and The Invisible Man (1933.)

Stuart also appeared in such musicals as Roman Scandals (1933,) It’s Great to Be Alive (1933,) Gift of Gab (1934,) Gold Diggers (1935,) Poor Little Rich Girl (1936,) Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938,) The Lady Objects (1938,) The Three Musketeers (1939,) and Here Comes Elmer (1943.) She was also a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Stuart gave up acting 1946–75, took up painting, and performed in a one-woman show in New York City in 1961. In the 1980s, she became a designer of prints, creating works placed in the collections of the Los Angeles’s Getty Museum and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. Her autobiography is Gloria Stuart: I Just Kept Hoping (1999.)
