Inspirational Quotes by H. C. Bailey (English Novelist)

H. C. Bailey (1878–1961,) fully Henry Christopher Bailey, was an English detective fiction writer. He also wrote historical fiction.

Born in London, Bailey studied Classics at Corpus Christi College-Oxford, earning a B.A. in 1901. He started as a war journalist for The Daily Telegraph and wrote drama reviews and editorials.

Bailey wrote mainly short stories and novels starring a surgeon and detective called Reggie Fortune, also known as ‘Mr. Fortune.’ Bailey also developed a second series character, Joshua Clunk, a sanctimonious lawyer who exposes corruption and blackmail in local politics. Clunk appeared in eleven novels between 1930 and 1950, including Bailey’s magnum opus The Sullen Sky Mystery (1935.)

Bailey’s first historical novel, My Lady of Orange (1901,) revolves around William the Silent, and his involvement in the Dutch Revolt. Bailey also published in The Windsor Magazine, Adventure and Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, and other periodicals.
