Louis Vincent Gerstner Jr. (b.1942,) simply Lou Gerstner, is an American business executive. His career has been a study in turning ailing companies around—he is most famous for reviving the fortunes of IBM as its Chairman and CEO 1993–2002.

Born in Mineola, New York, Gerstner studied engineering at Dartmouth and attended Harvard Business School. He joined the management-consulting firm McKinsey & Co. and distinguished himself by overhauling the insolvent Penn Central Railway. He later held executive positions at American Express and RJR Nabisco, before becoming CEO of IBM. Gerstner detailed his remarkable turnaround of IBM in his bestselling corporate memoirs Who Says Elephants Can’t Dance? (2002.)
