Helen Boehm (1920–2010,) born Elena Francesca Stephanie Franzolin, was an American entrepreneur. This “Princess of Porcelain” established E. M. Boehm Studios to promote her husband’s sculptures and grew into a multimillion-dollar enterprise.
Born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York, Boehm trained as an optician. She married Edward Marshall Boehm, a veterinary assistant who created ceramic sculptures of animals as a hobby. Helen began a thriving business by promoting and marketing his sculptures.
The Boehms gained popularity when the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York purchased two statues in 1951. A luncheon with First Lady Mamie Eisenhower helped make Boehm’s designs a de facto gift from U.S. Presidents to foreign dignitaries.
Boehm wrote the autobiography With a Little Luck: An American Odyssey (1985.)
