Inspirational Quotes by Christopher Reeve (American Actor)

Christopher Reeve (1952–2004) was an American actor best known for his Superman and Clark Kent film performances. He appeared in 17 feature films, a dozen T.V. movies, and about 150 plays. After a tragic fall from his horse left him paralyzed, he became a symbol of hope for people with quadriplegia.

Born in New York City, Reeve grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, where he performed in school plays and was involved with the local professional theatre. While receiving his education at Cornell University and the Juilliard School, New York City, he also worked at theatres in Europe and for two years as a cast member of the soap opera Love of Life. Reeve appeared on Broadway with Katharine Hepburn in A Matter of Gravity in 1976 and made his film début in Gray Lady Down (1978.)

Reeve became a celebrity after playing the title character in Superman (1978.) He went on to star in three sequels as well as several other films. Reeve also did more stage work and appeared in a range of films, including Somewhere in Time (1980,) Deathtrap (1982,) The Bostonians (1984,) The Remains of the Day (1993,) Switching Channels (1988,) and Noises Off (1992.)

Reeve fell from a horse during an equestrian competition in 1995 and broke his neck. He developed quadriplegia, but he assumed the heroic role of a prominent activist for medical research, including searching for a cure for spinal cord injuries. He dedicated much of his time lobbying the U.S. Congress for better insurance protection against catastrophic injury and supporting stem cell research. In 1999, he established the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation to help fund research projects.

Reeve returned to acting with the starring role in Rear Window (1998,) a T.V. movie update of the Hitchcock thriller in which a man confined to wheelchair spies on people in a neighboring apartment. He also directed The Brooke Ellison Story (2004.)
