Inspirational Quotes by Arthur Henry Hallam (English Essayist, Poet)

Arthur Henry Hallam (1811–33) was an English essayist and poet who died before his considerable talent developed. He is remembered primarily as the friend of the poet Alfred Tennyson, commemorated in Tennyson’s famous elegy In Memoriam (1850.)

Born in London, Hallam was the son of the English historian Henry Hallam. He met Tennyson at Cambridge’s Trinity College, where they joined other artistically and politically progressive students in the club called ‘The Apostles.’ Hallam defended Tennyson’s early work, Poems, Chiefly Lyrical (1830,) in a review for the Englishman’s Magazine and was engaged to Tennyson’s sister Emily.

Hallam’s prizewinning essays on philosophy and literary criticism, and his poems were collected and printed posthumously by his father in Remains, in Verse and Prose (1834.)
