Craig Matthew Thompson (b.1975) is an American graphic novelist. He is the author of such lauded graphic novels Blankets and Habibi—richly illustrated propulsive stories about love, set against a religious background.
Born in Traverse City, Michigan, Thompson grew up in rural Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County for three semesters and spent a semester at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design before settling in Portland, Oregon.
Thompson is best known for his books Good-bye, Chunky Rice (1999,) Blankets (2003; 600-page autobiographical graphic novel,) Carnet de Voyage (2004, a travelogue,) Habibi (2011,) and Space Dumplins (2015.) Habibi, his epic exploration of child slavery and sexual awakening in an imaginary Middle-Eastern kingdom, was influenced by Arabic calligraphy and Islamic mythology.
Thompson also wrote the mini-comics Bible Doodles (2000) and Doot Doot Garden (2001.)
