Inspirational Quotes by Amelia Earhart (American Aviator)

Amelia Mary Earhart (1897–1937) was an American pioneer aviator who became a nationwide obsession. As a woman in a man’s world of heroic courage, she became famous for her adventurism.

Born in Atchison, Kansas, Earhart was a tomboy who wore pants when growing up, although it was not conventional yet for women to do so. While studying medicine, she attended her first air show in California and decided to become a pilot. In 1932, she repeated Charles Lindbergh’s well-known solo flight over the Atlantic Ocean, becoming only the second person to fly unaccompanied from America to Europe.

Later, Earhart became the first person to fly from California to Hawaii, and she tried to fly around the globe. Earhart was an immensely popular figure of the 1920s and 1930s. The fledgling aviation industry used her as an icon to improve its image and to reassure women that flying was safe.

Fatefully, on her second round-the-world endeavor, Earhart’s plane got into trouble over the central Pacific Ocean, and she is believed to have ditched her aircraft. No traces of her or her aircraft were found, even after a decades-long search.

Earhart was married to the publisher George P. Putnam.
