Inspirational Quotes by Annie Besant (British-born Indian Theosophist)

Annie Besant (1847–1933) was a British theosophist, social reformer, campaigner for women’s rights, and a supporter of Indian self-government.

Born Annie Woods in London, she married clergyman Frank Besant, had two children, but separated from her husband because of her increasingly anti-religious views. She subsequently campaigned for trade unions, national education, women’s right to vote, and other social reform issues.

Besant became interested in Theosophy, a religious movement started by Helena Blavatsky in 1875 and was based on Hindu beliefs of karma and reincarnation. Besant first visited India in 1893 and later settled in Madras (now Chennai) where became active in the cause of Indian self-government, founded the Indian Home Rule League, and became President of the Theosophical Society.

O hidden light, shining in every creature;
O hidden love, embracing all in Oneness;

Know he is also one with every other.

Better remain silent, better not even think, if you are not prepared to act.

Yoga is a science, and not a vague dreamy drifting or imagining. It is an applied science, a systematized collection of laws applied to bring about a definite end. It takes up the laws of psychology, applicable to the unfolding of the whole consciousness of man on every plane, in every world, and applies those rationally in a particular case. This rational application of the laws of unfolding consciousness acts exactly on the same principles that you see applied around you every day in other departments of science.
