Inspirational Quotes by Bruce D. Henderson (American Business Consultant)

Bruce Doolin Henderson (1915–92) was an American businessman and strategy consulting consultant. He founded the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in 1963 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Henderson graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University. He later entered Harvard Business School but left only ninety days before graduation to join the Westinghouse Corporation, working there for 18 years. In 1959, Henderson joined Arthur D. Little as a management service consultant.

In 1963, Henderson launched an internal consulting called the Management and Consulting Division of the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company. Initially, it advised clients of the bank but was renamed the BCG and made an independent business in 1974.

Henderson pioneered such business analysis concepts as the “experience curve” and “cash cows, stars, question marks, or dogs” that are now fixtures in business school curriculums. He served as BCG’s president and CEO until 1980 and its chairman until 1985. He became a management professor at Vanderbilt in 1985.

Henderson’s works include Corporate Strategy (1979) and Logic of Business Strategy (1984.)
