Inspirational Quotes by Arnold Hutschnecker (American Psychiatrist)

Arnold Aaron Hutschnecker (1898–2000) was an Austrian-American psychiatrist and a specialist in psychosomatic illnesses. He was best known during his lifetime as the psychotherapist of President Richard Nixon.

Born in Austria, Hutschnecker served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. He then studied medicine at Humboldt University, Berlin, specialized in psychiatry. He opened a medical practice in Berlin. He became a vocal critic of Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist government.

Hutschnecker immigrated to the U.S. in 1938 and settled in New York City, where he practiced internal medicine and psychiatry. Among his patients was Richard Nixon. Hutschnecker also advised Nixon on childcare policy, presenting a daycare plan for preschool children in lower economic neighborhoods.

Hutschnecker also wrote articles on the psychology of leadership and advised Gerald Ford. He published several books, including the best-selling The Will to Live (1951,) which dealt with complaints like insomnia and hypertension, impotence, and chronic fatigue. His other publications were Love and Hate in Human Nature (1955) and The Drive for Power (1974.)
