Inspirational Quotes by Alan Harrington (American Novelist)

Alan Harrington (1919–97) was an American novelist whose output ranged from black humor to social criticism and chronicles of the heart. His friends included novelist Jack Kerouac and poet Allen Ginsberg.

Born in Newton, Massachusetts, Harrington graduated from Harvard College and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in Newfoundland during World War II. After the war, he held appointments as a journalist, editor, and public relations professional (1946–60,) and he wrote for Harper’s and other magazines. He also taught writing at the University of Arizona.

Harrington wrote the novels The Revelations of Dr. Modesto (1955,) The Secret Swinger (1966,) and The White Rainbow (1981.) Besides novels, he wrote nonfiction books, including Life in the Crystal Palace (1959,) The Immortalist (1969,) and Psychopaths (1972.)
