Inspirational Quotes by Rosamond Lehmann (English Novelist)

Rosamond Nina Lehmann (1901–90) was an English novelist and translator. She is well known for her sensitive portrayals of girls on the threshold of adult life.

Born in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, Lehmann was the daughter of journalist Rudolph Chambers Lehmann and the sister of actress Beatrix Lehmann and publisher John Lehmann. Lehmann was educated at Girton College-Cambridge, which provided the background for her first novel, Dusty Answer (1927,) a coming-of-age story about a shy young girl’s fascination with the glamorous cousins who live next door. Her other titles include A Note in Music (1930,) An Invitation to the Waltz (1932,) and its sequel The Weather in the Streets (1936,) The Echoing Grove (1953,) and A Sea-Grape Tree (1970.)

Lehmann was adept at capturing nuances of moods. Her works show a nuanced, sensitive insight into the character of her women. She also wrote a play, No More Music (1939,) and a volume of short stories, The Gypsy’s Baby (1946.) Following her daughter’s death, she developed an interest in spiritualism, became president of the College of Psychic Studies, and published the autobiographical The Swan in the Evening (1967.)
