Inspirational Quotes by Maurice Baring (British Author)

Maurice Baring (1874–1945) was an English novelist, essayist, poet, and playwright. A prolific author, his articles, plays, biography, criticism, poetry, translations, stories and novels, and works on art, add up to over 50 volumes.

Born in London, Baring was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. He then held diplomatic posts and served as a correspondent for The Times 1904–14, and traveled extensively in Russia, China, and Turkey. During World I, he was an officer in the Royal Flying Corps 1914–18.

Baring wrote novels, such as Passing By (1921) and Cat’s Cradle (1925,) plays, including The Black Prince (1902,) and books on Russia, such as Landmarks in Russian Literature (1910.) He was also a distinguished Russian scholar and translator. He discovered Anton Chekhov’s work in Moscow and helping to introduce it to the West.

Baring recorded his experiences until the outbreak of World War I in the autobiography The Puppet Show of Memory (1922,) and also published the anthology Have You Anything to Declare? (1936.) The novella The Lonely Lady of Dulwich (1934) is often considered the best of his works.
