Inspirational Quotes by Lynda Barry (American Cartoonist)

Lynda Barry (b.1956,) born Linda Jean Barry, is an American cartoonist and author. A teacher and theorist of human creativity, she is a fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, Barry introduced her bitingly funny, crudely drawn comic strip Ernie Pook’s Comeek in the Chicago Reader alternative newsweekly in 1980. It was featured in more than 60 newspapers in the 1990s.

Barry’s acclaimed novel and play The Good Times are Killing Me (1988,) set in the 1960s, tackles race relations and other subjects as children comprehend. She examined abuse and addiction issues in the groundbreaking novel, Cruddy (1999,) featuring disturbing and luminous illustrations.

Barry’s collections of comics and books include Girls & Boys (1981,) The Greatest of Marlys (2000; revised 2016,) the “autobiofictionalography” One! Hundred! Demons! (2002,) and Syllabus: Notes from an Accidental Professor (2014.)
