Sandra Annette Bullock (b.1964) is an American actress, producer, and philanthropist. She is well known for her compelling energy and wit on-screen, particularly as girl-next-door characters in dramatic and romantic comedies.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, Bullock spent most of her childhood in Nürnberg, West Germany. After studying drama at East Carolina University, she moved to New York City and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.

Bullock rose to fame in the 1990s with roles in such films as Demolition Man (1992,) Speed (1994,) The Net (1995,) While You Were Sleeping (1995,) A Time to Kill (1996,) and Hope Floats (1998.) In the new millennium, Bullock starred in Miss Congeniality (2000,) Two Weeks Notice (2002,) The Lake House (2006,) and the critically acclaimed Crash (2004) and Gravity (2013.)

Off the screen, Bullock has been known to donate her time and money to philanthropic causes. She has been leading public supporter of the American Red Cross and other charities. She has also contributed to disaster-relief funds.
