Inspirational Quotes by Lewis H. Brown (American Businessperson)

Lewis Herold Brown (1894–1951) was an American industrialist. He was the former Chairman of Johns-Manville, once the world’s largest manufacturer of asbestos and asbestos products, just as the health effects of asbestos exposure were first apparent.

Born in Creston, Iowa, Brown attended the University of Iowa and served as an infantry captain in France during World War I. After the war, he worked at retailing company Montgomery Ward.

Brown joined asbestos manufacturer Johns Manville in 1929 and served as its CEO 1929–46. Under his leadership, Johns-Manville became the world’s largest producer of asbestos building materials, insulation, and allied products. Brown instituted collective bargaining and began the practice of surveying employees’ attitudes to determine future company policies.

Brown’s A Report on Germany (1947,) a report on the reconstruction of post-war Germany, served as a basis for the Marshall Plan.
