Inspirational Quotes by John Michell (English Esotericist, New Age Writer)

John Michell (1933–2009,) fully John Frederick Carden Michell, was an English esotericist, New Age author, and proponent of some bizarre theories. A proponent of the Traditionalist school of esoteric thought, he was a prominent figure in developing the Earth mysteries movement.

Born to a wealthy family in London, Michell was educated at Eton College before serving as a Russian translator in the Royal Navy for two years. He failed a degree in Russian and German at Cambridge’s Trinity College, and he briefly worked for his family’s property business.

Michell’s counterculture classic The View Over Atlantis (1969) was regarded as an influential book in the history of the hippy/underground movement and had far-reaching effects on studying strange phenomena. He wrote over 40 titles about such unusual topics as sacred geometry, earth mysteries, geomancy, gematria, archaeoastronomy, metrology, euphonics, simulacrum, and holy sites.

Michell’s notable works include Eccentric Lives, Peculiar Notions (1984,) Secrets of the Stones: New Revelations (1989,) Temple at Jerusalem: A Revelation (2000,) How the World Is Made (2009,) and New View Over Atlantis (2013.) After a prolonged fixation with the Shakespeare authorship question, he produced Who Wrote Shakespeare? (1996.)
