Inspirational Quotes by Lily Tomlin (American Comedy Actress)

Mary Jean “Lily” Tomlin (b.1939) is an American comedian, writer, and actress. She started her career as a stand-up comedian and by performing Off-Broadway during the 1960s. She won fame for her roles on television shows such as Laugh-In and movies such as Nashville and Nine to Five.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Tomlin dropped out from pre-medical college to pursue a calling performing in a local cabaret. She later moved to New York and made her TV début on The Garry Moore Show in 1966. Her talent for impersonation won her a place in the cast of NBC’s long-running comedy sketch show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In (1968–73.)

Tomlin later embarked on a noteworthy film career that highlighted her adeptness at both comedic and serious roles. She received an Academy Award nomination for a dramatic role in her film début Nashville (1975.) Her subsequent film appearances include The Late Show (1977,) All of Me (1984,) Short Cuts (1993,) Tea with Mussolini (1999,) and A Prairie Home Companion (2006.)

Tomlin’s career has spanned television, Broadway, feature films, comedy records, and even children’s programming. She also won recognition for her acute sense of observation in the one-woman stage shows Appearing Nitely (1977) and The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe (1985–86; Tony Award.)

Tomlin presently stars with the actress Jane Fonda in the farcical Grace and Frankie (2015–,) a Netflix series about two women whose husbands leave them for each other.
