Inspirational Quotes by Roman Abramovich (Russian-Israeli Businessman)

Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich (b.1966) is a Russian-Israeli businessman, investor, and politician of Jewish origin.

Born in Saratov, Saratov Oblast, of a non-Jewish mother and a Jewish father, Abramovich lost his parents when he was three years old. He was raised by his uncle Abram and lived in Moscow, where he finished his secondary schooling. He graduated from the Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas in Moscow.

After the fall of Communism, Abramovich became active in business. His mentor Boris Berezovsky brought him into President Boris Yeltsin’s inner circle. After Berezovsky fled the country in the year 2000 in the wake of a criminal investigation, Abramovich took over control of the Sibneft (Siberian oil) company. In 2012, Berezovsky accused Abramovich of coercing him into selling his shares in Sibneft. Their multibillion-dollar legal battle turned into one of the most prominent private court cases in British history. It offered an insight into the inner workings of the oligarchs of post-Soviet Russia. The London High Court concluded that Berezovsky had never been a co-owner of Sibneft.

Abramovich owned 50% of Rusal (Russia’s biggest aluminum company) and 26% of Aeroflot, Russia’s national airline. In 1999, he was elected deputy of the State Duma from the Chukotka Autonomous Region. He served as governor of the region 2000–08.

In 2003, Abramovich bought London’s Chelsea soccer club. He also owned the Russian Avangard Omsk ice hockey team.

Abramovich is one of President Vladimir Putin’s closest confidants. Putin biographer Chris Hutchins and co-author Dominic Midgley wrote a biography Abramovich: The Billionaire from Nowhere (2015.)
