Inspirational Quotes by Lisa Kirk (American Entertainer)

Lisa Kirk (1925–90,) born Elsie Kirk, was an American stage, film, television performer. An elegant singer-actress who could play highbrow or lowbrow, she was a favorite in nightclubs, on Broadway, and on television.

Born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Kirk trained at the Pittsburgh Playhouse before making her Broadway bow in the play Good Night, Ladies (1945.) Two years later, she concluded the show each night singing, “The Gentleman Is a Dope” in Allegro (1947.) Her other Broadway triumph was as Lois Lane/Bianca in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate (1948.)

Kirk made many television appearances and a few films, providing some of the singing vocals for actress Rosalind Russell in the film version of Gypsy (1962.)

Kirk returned to the stage as the veteran professional dancer Lottie in the musical play Mack and Mabel (1974) and made her last Broadway appearance in a revival of the play Design for Living (1984.)
