Inspirational Quotes by Dwight L. Moody (Christian Religious Leader)

Dwight Lyman Moody (1837–99) was a notable American evangelist and publisher who set the pattern for later evangelism in large cities.

Born in Northfield, Massachusetts, Moody was a shoe salesman in Boston and, in 1856, went to Chicago. He gave up his job to engage in missionary work and organized the North Market Sabbath School.

In 1870, Moody was joined by Ira David Sankey (1840–1908.) In 1873 and 1883, they visited Great Britain as evangelists, Moody preaching, and Sankey singing. Moody and Sankey later worked together in America and published the Sankey and Moody Hymn Book (1873) and Gospel Hymns (1875.)

As well as conducting revivals, Moody directed annual Bible conferences at Northfield, Massachusetts, where he founded a seminary for girls in 1879. In 1899, he founded the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago (now the Moody Bible Institute.)

Biographies include James F Findlay, Jnr’s Dwight L Moody, American Evangelist: 1837–99 (1969.)
