Leslie Herbert Wexner (b.1937) is an American businessman. He is the founder of the clothing empire The Limited, which greatly influenced the fashion industry.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, to a budget clothing store manager and a department-store buyer, Wexner graduated from Ohio State University in 1959. He dropped out of law school after two years and worked at his parents’ store in the early 1960s. Realizing the future of fashionable women’s sportswear, he started his company, The Limited (later L Brands,) in 1963 with $5,000 and one women’s apparel store.

With six stores in 1969, Wexner led an early IPO in 1969 and used the returns from the stock sale to fund a massive expansion into malls. Over time, his empire extended to include Victoria’s Secret, Lane Bryant, Abercrombie & Fitch, Express, Inc., and Bath & Body Works, spinning off some brands as independent businesses.

Wexner became chairman emeritus of L Brands in 2020 but resigned following his association with financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In 2021, L Brands spun Victoria’s Secret off to become an independent business. L Brands changed its name to Bath & Body Works, Inc.

Wexner is a prominent philanthropist who has funded education, health care, civic, and cultural programs. Ohio State University named its medical center in his honor.
