Inspirational Quotes by Eknath Easwaran (Indian Meditation Teacher, Author)

Eknath Easwaran (1910–99) was an Indian-born American spiritual teacher and author. He is celebrated as a translator and interpreter of Indian religious texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Upaniṣads.

Born in a village in Kerala, Eknath was a professor of English literature at the University of Nagpur in India. He came to the U.S. as a Fulbright Scholar in 1959 and taught meditation at the University of California, Berkeley.

In 1961, Eknath founded the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation. He developed a method of meditation called Passage Meditation, which involves silent repetition in the mind of memorized inspirational passages (mantras) sourced from the world’s major religious and spiritual traditions.

A prolific author, Eknath is celebrated for his translations and commentaries on Indian religious texts including, The Bhagavad Gita for Daily Living (1975,) Passage Meditation—A Complete Spiritual Practice (1978,) The Bhagavad Gita (1979,) Dhammapada (1982,) The Upaniṣads (1987,) The Mantram Handbook (1988,) and Words to Live By: Daily Inspiration (1988.)

Eknath also wrote biographies of Mahatma Gandhi (1973,) Khan Abdul Ghaffar (1984,) and Kabir (1994.)
