Inspirational Quotes by Bum Phillips (American Football Coach)

Oail Andrew “Bum” Phillips (1923–2013) was an American football coach.

Born in Orange, Texas, Phillips played football in college at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, becoming an elite Marine Raider. After graduating with a degree in education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1949, he spent two decades coaching in high schools and universities before coaching professional teams. He served as head coach in the National Football League for the Houston Oilers 1975–80 and the New Orleans Saints 1981–85.

Phillips was known for his trademark cowboy hat and his colorful one-liners. His memoirs are Bum Phillips: Coach, Cowboy, Christian (2010.)
