Inspirational Quotes by John Loengard (American Photographer)

John Borg Loengard (1934–2020) was an American photographer. He worked as a staff photographer at Life magazine from 1961 and was its picture editor 1973–87. He had an extensive influence on two generations of photojournalists and portrait photographers.

Born in Manhattan, New York City, Loengard began shooting for Life as a Harvard senior in 1956, landing a staff position in 1961. He became renowned for his classic, meditative black-and-white photo-essays on diverse subjects. He taught at the International Center of Photography, New York, and The New School for Social Research, New York, and conducted workshops worldwide.

Loengard’s publications and photo collections include Pictures under Discussion (1987,) As I See It (2005,) Age of Silver: Encounters with Great Photographers (2011,) and Moment by Moment (2016.)
