Inspirational Quotes by Benjamin Hoff (American Taoist Writer)

Benjamin Lloyd Hoff (b.1946) is an American author of self-help and spiritual discovery books. The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet explain Taoism’s Chinese philosophy through the characters A. A. Milne created.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Hoff studied Asian art at Evergreen State College, graduating in 1973. He worked as a Japanese tree pruner, potter, antique restorer, graphic artist, and hospital orderly. He wrote his first book, The Way of Life: At the Heart of the Tao Te Ching (1981,) at night and on weekends in a one-bedroom apartment.

Hoff’s fourth book, The Tao of Pooh (1992,) became an international bestseller and was on the New York Times bestseller list for 49 weeks. Its successor, The Te of Piglet (1992,) was on New York Times bestseller list for 59 weeks. Both these books recast Milne’s stories with an overlay of Chinese Taoist philosophy and a modern New Age quest for spiritual fulfillment.

Hoff also authored The Singing Creek Where the Willows Grow: The Mystical Nature Diary of Opal Whiteley (1988) and The House on the Point: A Tribute to Franklin W. Dixon and the Hardy Boys (2002.) His latest work is The Eternal Tao Te Ching: The Philosophical Masterwork of Taoism and Its Relevance Today (2021.)
