Inspirational Quotes by Harlan Cleveland (American Diplomat)

Harlan Cleveland (1918–2008) was an American diplomat, educator, and author.

Born in New York City, Cleveland graduated from Princeton University in 1938 and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University in the late 1930s. During the 1940s, he worked as an economic warfare specialist in Washington and later as a United Nations relief and rehabilitation manager in Italy and China.

Cleveland served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs 1961–65 and President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Ambassador to NATO 1965–69.

Cleveland served as President of the University of Hawaii 1969–74 and held leadership positions at the University of Minnesota and Syracuse University. He authored twelve books, including The Knowledge Executive (1985) and Nobody in Charge: Essays on the Future of Leadership (2002.)
