Richard Russo (b.1949) is an American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and teacher. Born in Johnstown, New York, attended the University of Arizona and got a PhD. He taught English at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He went on to write many semi-autobiographical novels about small-town life in New England, including Mohawk (1986,) Nobody’s Fool (1993,) Empire Falls (2001; Pulitzer,) The Bridge of Sighs (2007,) and That Old Cape Magic (2009.)
