Inspirational Quotes by William L. Shirer (American Author)

William L. Shirer (1904–93,) in full William Lawrence Shirer, was an American journalist, historian, and novelist. He is best known for his extensive study, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich: A History of Nazi Germany (1960.)

Born in Chicago, Shirer worked as a newspaper reporter in Europe and India for the Chicago Tribune and the Universal News Service. He joined CBS in 1937 as a war correspondent in Europe. He also penned a column for the New York Herald Tribune 1942–48.

Shirer’s most significant work, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (1960,) won the National Book Award. His other books include Berlin Diary: The Journal of a Foreign Correspondent, 1934–41 (1941,) The Collapse of the Third Republic (1969,) and Gandhi: A Memoir (1979.)

Shirer also issued three volumes of memoirs, collectively titled Twentieth-Century Journey (1976, 1984, and 1990.)
