Inspirational Quotes by Corrado Alvaro (Italian Novelist)

Corrado Alvaro (1895–1956) was an Italian novelist and journalist whose works investigated life’s social and political pressures in the 20th century. His works were often set in Calabria, southern Italy.

Born in San Luca, Reggio, Alvaro was the sometime editor of Il Mondo and the author of several novels and collections of essays. The long-suffering disparity between town and country and his idealized memory of his native south are recurring themes.

Alvaro’s best novels are Maestri del diluvio (1935, ‘The Masters of the Flood’) and L’uomo è forte (1934, ‘The Strong Man,’) both set in Soviet Russia. However, he declared that his criticisms were of fascist and not communist society.

Alvaro also wrote the verse collection Poesie grigioverdi (1917; “Green-Gray Poems,”) the critical essay La lunga notte di Medea (1994; The Long Night of Medea,) and the memoirs Quasi una vita (1950; “Almost a Life”) and Ultimo diario (1959; “The Final Diary.”)
