Inspirational Quotes by Nick Hornby (English Author)

Nick Hornby (b.1957,) fully Nicholas Peter John Hornby, is a British novelist, screenwriter, and essayist. He is best known for his sharply comedic, pop-culture-drenched depictions of dissatisfied adulthood and his music and literary criticism.

Born in Redhill, Surrey, Hornby studied at Jesus College, Cambridge. Before his first major publishing success, he worked as an English teacher and journalist, the memoir Fever Pitch (1992, filmed 1997,) which explored the obsessive world of the (primarily male) football fan.

Hornby’s subsequent bestsellers included the novels High Fidelity (1995, filmed 2000) and About a Boy (1998, filmed 2002,) exploring aspects of masculinity and cementing his position as the foremost exponent of the ‘New Lad’ trend in British fiction.

Hornby’s later works include How to Be Good (2001) and A Long Way Down (2005.) He also wrote the screenplays for the films Wild (2014,) based on Cheryl Strayed’s inspirational memoir about hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, and Brooklyn (2015,) an adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel the romantic entanglements of a young Irish immigrant to the U.S.
