Inspirational Quotes by Simon & Garfunkel (American Folk-Rock Duo)

Simon & Garfunkel is a legendary American folk-rock duo from the 1960s. Made up of Paul Frederic Simon (b.1941) and Arthur Ira Garfunkel (b.1941,) the duo was among the first groups to emphasize poetry in their lyrics and evocative vocal harmonies in their compositions.

Simon and Garfunkel met at their elementary school in Forest Hills, New York, and soon started to harmonize with the doo-wop songs that were popular on the radio. At age 16, they recorded “Hey Schoolgirl” and released as a single under the name Tom & Jerry; it sold well, reaching the Billboard Top 50. The two continued to work with each other intermittently all through the late 1950s and early 1960s, though they mainly remained solo artists during that time.

With such hits as “The Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robinson,” Simon & Garfunkel soon became musical darlings of literary-minded college-age baby boomers. Their music was a crucial ingredient in the success of the film The Graduate (1967.) In 1970, they reached their zenith with Simon’s inspirational gospel-flavored anthem “Bridge over Troubled Water,” which showcased Garfunkel’s soaring semi-operatic tenor.

Ever since they split up in 1970, Simon & Garfunkel have played together for many live performances and even tried to record a new album.
