Inspirational Quotes by David Bohm (American Physicist)

David Bohm (1917–92) was an American-born British theoretical physicist who developed a causal, nonlocal interpretation of quantum mechanics and laid the foundations of modern plasma theory.

Born to an immigrant Jewish family in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Bohm graduated from Pennsylvania State College and studied under physicist Robert Oppenheimer at the University of California at Berkeley. After participating in the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb, he became an assistant professor at Princeton University in 1947, but in 1951 was dismissed for political reasons (Bohm had engaged in left-wing politics in Berkeley during World War II.)

Bohm moved to Brazil as a professor at the University of Sao Paulo (1951–55,) and later to England as a Research Fellow at Bristol University (1957–61) and professor of theoretical physics at Birkbeck College, London (1961–83.)

On the Manhattan Project, Bohm developed essential techniques to describe oscillations in plasmas, and he later applied these techniques to significantly enhance our understanding of electron behavior in metals. Bohm had a great interest in quantum mechanics, writing the influential textbook Quantum Theory (1951) and proposing radical new approaches to the field, notably the ‘pilot-wave’ theory.

In later work, Bohm investigated many of the philosophical problems of modern physics and the nature of thought and consciousness. He took up Hegelianism and then theosophy through the teachings of the Indian mystic Jiddu Krishnamurti (they wrote The Ending of Time (1985.)) Bohm also wrote Wholeness and the Implicate Order (1980.)
