Inspirational Quotes by Richard Eyre (British Director)

Richard Eyre (b.1943,) fully Sir Richard Charles Hastings Eyre, is an English film, theatre, television, and opera director. He is famous for his nuanced handling of actors.

Born in Barnstaple, Devonshire, Eyre was educated at Cambridge, beginning his career in 1965 at the Phoenix, Leicester. He became associate director of Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre (1967) and director of productions (1970–72.)

Eyre was the artistic director of the Nottingham Playhouse (1973–78,) and afterward, producer of the BBC Television Play for Today series (1978–81.) His other television plays include Tumbledown (1988,) a Falklands War drama.

Eyre has made several films, including The Ploughman’s Lunch (1983) and Iris (2001; biopic of the writer and philosopher Iris Murdoch,) The Children Act (2018,) and the television film King Lear (2018.)

Eyre was associate director of the National Theatre, London 1981, and becoming director in 1988. In 1996, he directed Henrik Ibsen’s John Gabriel Barkman and Tony Harrison’s The Prince’s Play, a translation of Victor Hugo’s Le roi s’amuse (1832.)
