Inspirational Quotes by Paul W. Litchfield (American Industrialist)

Paul Weeks Litchfield (1875–1959) was an American industrialist who was president (1926–40) and chairman of the board (1930–58) of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, a corporation that he helped evolve into a worldwide operation.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Litchfield studied chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 1896. His first job in the rubber industry was with a bicycle-tire manufacturer. In 1900 he became a supervisor at the Akron plant of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He ascended rapidly, becoming president in 1926 and board chairman four years later.

Under Litchfield’s leadership, Goodyear launched a research and development department that produced the first practical airplane tire, conveyor belts, airplane hydraulic disc brakes, the first pneumatic truck tire, and a bullet-sealing fuel tank for military aircraft. Goodyear extended its foreign operations, setting up rubber plantations and factories worldwide.

Goodyear formed an aeronautics department in 1910 and produced observation balloons, zeppelins, and airships, many of which set size and altitude records. His company also developed airplane parts and fighter aircraft, becoming one of the ten largest producers in this domain during World War II.

Litchfield’s published works include his autobiography Industrial Voyage (1954.)
