Inspirational Quotes by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (British Prince)

Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh (1921–2021,) fully Philip Mountbatten-Windsor, Duke of Edinburgh, Baron of Greenwich, Earl of Merioneth, was the Consort of Queen Elizabeth II from her accession on 6 February 1952 until he died in 2021, making him the longest-serving royal consort in history.

Born in Corfu, Prince Philip was the son of Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenburg, grandson of George I of Greece. He was also a great-grandson of Queen Victoria. Philip was educated at Cheam School, Gordonstoun, and Dartmouth. He joined the Royal Navy (1939) as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. In 1941, he joined HMS Valiant, on which he fought in the Battle of Cape Matapan, subsequently serving in the Pacific on HMS Whelp.

In 1947, Philip became a naturalized British subject, and on 20-November-1947, as the Duke of Edinburgh, he married his third cousin, Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II. As a prince of Great Britain and Northern Ireland since 1957, he showed a keen and occasionally outspoken interest in science and technology and youth adventure training through the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards and in world wildlife. He is also interested in sports, especially carriage driving. In 2017, he retired from his public role with the royal family.

Philip’s speeches and essays were published in Men, Machines and Sacred Cows (1984.) English writer Basil Boothroyd wrote Philip: An Informal Biography (1971.)
